About
Built for academic credibility
InstructAI is a production studio focused exclusively on higher education. We translate complex scholarship and institutional process into clear, accessible films — for faculty, students, staff, and the public.
Our mission
Make the academy's knowledge reachable.
Universities produce some of the most important knowledge in the world — and some of the least accessible. Financial aid policy, disability accommodation, registration logic, and peer-reviewed research all routinely fail the very people they are meant to serve, simply because they are hard to follow.
InstructAI exists to close that gap. We partner with institutions to produce short, accurate, accessible explainer videos that respect both the rigor of the source material and the time of the audience. Every film is built around a real student or staff journey, reviewed by subject-matter experts, and delivered with the accessibility features the academy expects.
We do not chase volume. We take on a limited number of engagements each term so that each film receives the editorial attention it deserves.
The founder
Created from direct student-support experience.
InstructAI was created by Rich Dunlop, a higher-education case manager and communications professional with student-support experience across Whitman College, the University of Delaware, and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Through direct work with students and university offices, Rich observed that students are often expected to navigate complicated processes through lengthy webpages, policy documents, email instructions, and administrative systems. InstructAI was developed to convert those processes into concise, accessible, institutionally reviewed video explanations.
What we believe
Three principles guide every engagement
Higher-education focus
We work exclusively with universities, research labs, and academic publishers. We understand the regulatory, ethical, and editorial expectations of the academy.
Accessibility as default
Every film ships with open captions, a transcript, and audio description where appropriate. Accessibility is not an add-on — it is part of the brief.
Editorial credibility
Subject-matter experts review each script before production. We protect the rigor of the work while making it legible to a broader audience.
Our approach to accessibility
Accessible by design, not by retrofit.
Accessibility is decided in the script, not in post-production. We write to WCAG 2.1 AA color-contrast and reading-level targets, caption every film with accurate verbatim or edited captions, and provide full transcripts as a deliverable alongside the video.
Where a topic benefits from audio description, we produce a described version. Where a film will reach multilingual audiences, we coordinate translation and caption localization with native reviewers. Our player supports keyboard navigation, visible focus, and respects user motion preferences.
We publish our Accessibility Statement so institutions can evaluate our commitment against their own standards.
